Shota Nakajima
We’ve been fans of chef Shota Nakajima for years so we jumped at the chance to design aprons with him. You might know him from Top Chef, his Seattle spot Taku, or just his cool takes on Japanese comfort food.
Inspired by our shared Japanese heritage, the collection features three custom styles that bring together traditional indigo prints, modern shapes, and a little bit of Shota’s signature style.
Designed for the kitchen, the spotlight, and everywhere in between, each apron is a nod to Japanese craftsmanship, with a Finery twist, of course.
1 Minute with Shota Nakajima
Worst uniform you’ve ever had to wear?
A stiff, boxy chef coat made from synthetic fabric that didn’t breathe. It felt like cooking in a sauna wearing armor.
What do you usually wear when you’re not behind a stove?
Light, airy clothes that let me move swiftly through the kitchen or up a mountain when I’m out foraging. Comfort and movement are key.
1 piece of clothing you can’t live without?
A well-worn apron with deep pockets. It’s functional, familiar, and always with me when I cook.
1 inspiring thing you saw last week?
A grandma teaching her grandson how to make tamago. Watching that generational connection through food was a beautiful reminder of why I love what I do.
Other than Taku, where should we eat in Seattle?
Tomo for casual New American with a creative edge. Takeda or Sushi Suzuki for incredible sushi. Ganbei in Chinatown for something chill, satisfying, and full of flavor.
Favorite eating city(s) in the world?
Tokyo and Osaka. Tokyo for sushi and French cuisine. Osaka for all other Japanese food, the energy, the flavors, the people, everything.
