Finery Apron Chef Series

Seven years ago, Finery was founded on an idea. An idea that uniforms didn’t have to look like “uniforms”. An idea that uniforms could be beautiful pieces of clothing that still functioned well on the job. An idea that uniforms didn’t have to be a dirty word.

And this idea came about one week when four of our chef friends asked us if we could help style the staff at their restaurants. Four chefs who lived in our city of Los Angeles and had been feeding us for years.

Seven years later, we wanted to thank these four amazing chefs for inspiring us to build a company that helps everybody in uniform feel good about how they look, how they feel, and how they perform on the job.

We’ve asked these four chefs to design the apron they’ve always wanted but couldn’t buy. An apron that represents their personality, their food, and their city of Los Angeles.

The Chefs

Roy Choi is the chef and cultural force behind Kogi BBQ—the LA food truck that launched a movement and was dubbed America’s first viral restaurant by Newsweek. A pioneer at the intersection of food, tech, and street culture, Roy has gone on to open Chego!, A-Frame, Alibi Room, LocoL, and Best Friend in Las Vegas. He’s the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir L.A. Son, co-producer of the film Chef, and executive producer of The Chef Show (Netflix) and Broken Bread (KCET/Tastemade). His custom apron is a classic gray denim bib style with silver D-ring hardware, digital camo accents, and utility-focused pockets throughout.

Susan Feniger is a trailblazing chef, author, and entrepreneur best known for co-founding Border Grill with longtime partner Mary Sue Milliken. A Food Network mainstay with nearly 400 episodes of Too Hot Tamales, she’s also co-authored six cookbooks, appeared on Top Chef Masters, and was an original co-host of KCRW’s Good Food. Deeply involved in community work, Susan sits on several nonprofit boards and co-founded Chefs Collaborative. Her custom apron features a midnight navy cotton twill body, rope ties, railroad denim accents, and pink detailing Pantone-matched to her signature hue.

Ludo Lefebvre is one of LA’s most influential chefs, known for revolutionizing dining through his “LudoBites” pop-ups and earning two Five Star Awards from the Mobil Travel Guide. Trained for over a decade in France, Ludo has helmed celebrated kitchens like L’Orangerie and Bastide, starred in The Taste, and was honored by France with the Chevalier de Arts et des Lettres. He’s been a James Beard finalist and named one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Chefs.” His apron is a warm white linen bib style, accented with navy rope ties and brass hardware—a refined nod to classic French style.

David Myers—known as the Gypsy Chef—is a globally recognized culinary nomad with restaurants across Tokyo, Singapore, and Dubai. Trained under icons like Charlie Trotter and Daniel Boulud, his work reflects a deep reverence for global flavors and design. Named Food & Wine’s Best New Chef in 2003 and Esquire Middle East’s Chef of the Year in 2017, David also earned a Michelin star for his former LA flagship, Sona. His apron is a midnight navy linen bib style with silver D-ring hardware, featuring a welt pocket in traditional Japanese indigo print—an homage to refined travel and quiet detail.
